Yelaine Rodriguez

Yelaine Rodriguez (b. 1990) is an Afro-Dominican interdisciplinary artist, scholar, and curator whose practice spans wearable art, sculpture, photography, video installation, and performance. Her work examines Afro-syncretism, ancestral and architectural memory, and connections between Black cultures in the Caribbean and the United States. Rodriguez holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies with a concentration in Museum Studies from New York University. She is pursuing a PhD in Performance Studies at Northwestern University. Her work has been exhibited internationally at institutions and exhibitions including documenta 15, El Museo del Barrio, The Shed, the American Museum of Natural History, and Centro León Biennial. From 2015 to 2018, Rodriguez founded La Lucha: Dominican Republic and Haiti, One Island, an artist collective exploring Dominican-Haitian relations through exhibitions, artist panels, and conferences. She designed the costumes and created wearable art for Jamal Ademola’s feature film They Came From the Clouds.
